Overview

The Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage to India’s most sacred and holy sites. Thousands of pilgrims and spiritual seekers travel from all over the world to seek enlightenment. The Char Dham Yatra begins on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya in the month of Chaitya and continues till Bhai Dooj. Every Hindu’s greatest wish is to visit these sacred locations at least once in their lifetime in order to achieve Moksha.

Char Dham literally translates to “travel to the four abodes” and refers to a pilgrimage to four sacred Hindu sanctuaries in Uttarakhand’s high Himalayas. To distinguish it from the larger Char Dham circuit in India, this yatra is sometimes known as ‘Chhota Char Dham.’

Yamunotri Dham, Gangotri Dham, Kedarnath Dham, and Badrinath Dham are all part of the Hindu Char Dham Yatra circuit. The spiritual sources of the rivers Yamuna (Yamunotri), Ganga (Gangotri), Mandakini (Kedarnath), and Alaknanda are these four ancient temples (Badrinath).

Char Dham Yatra Route

The Chardham Yatra is traditionally performed from west to east, beginning in Yamunotri, then moving on to Gangotri, and eventually to Kedarnath and Badrinath. Pilgrims generally visit Yamunotri and Gangotri first, bringing holy water from the Yamuna and Ganga’s springs and performing abhishekams on Kedareshwara.
