Winter Char Dham

  • The Caucasus Mountains are a mountain range at the intersection of Asia and Europe

Overview

The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in India, drawing
countless devotees in search of spiritual peace, blessings, and inner fulfilment. However, due to
heavy snowfall and extreme weather conditions during the winter months, the primary Char Dham
temples remain closed. To keep the spiritual journey alive, the idols from these temples are
ceremonially moved to their designated winter locations.

Winter Char Dham Tour Package are thoughtfully curated to offer pilgrims a smooth and
fulfilling experience. These packages typically include transportation, meals, accommodation,
sightseeing, and the services of experienced guides. Devotees can not only continue their sacred
journey during winter but also enjoy the serene, snow-covered landscapes that enhance the
peaceful and divine atmosphere.

Winter Char Dham Destinations

During the winter, pilgrims visit alternate location where the deities reside temporarily.
These tranquil destinations provide a quieter, more intimate spiritual experience amidst the
beauty of the Himalayas.

1. Kharsali (Winter Seat of Yamunotri)

Kharsali marks the beginning of the Winter Char Dham Yatra. Nestled in the midst of snow-draped
mountains, it becomes the winter home of Goddess Yamuna. The idol from the Yamunotri temple is
brought here during the colder months. Pilgrims can begin their journey in this peaceful village,
surrounded by natural beauty and spiritual calm.

2. Mukhba (Winter Seat of Gangotri)

Just an hour’s drive from the main Gangotri temple, Mukhba is a picturesque village that becomes
the winter residence of Goddess Ganga. When snow makes access to Gangotri impossible, the idol
is moved to Mukhba. With its tranquil setting and panoramic mountain views, Mukhba offers a
spiritually rich and serene experience for devotees.

3. Ukhimath (Winter Seat of Kedarnath)

During winter, the idol of Lord Kedarnath is shifted to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath.
Surrounded by snow-covered peaks, this temple becomes the focal point for Kedarnath devotees in
the colder season. The peaceful ambiance and sacred atmosphere make Ukhimath a powerful
spiritual destination on the Winter Char Dham route.

4. Joshimath (Winter Seat of Badrinath)

Joshimath serves as the winter seat for Lord Badrinath, with the idol relocated to the
Pandukeshwar Temple nearby. As part of the winter tour, pilgrims can visit Joshimath and seek
blessings from Lord Vishnu in a calm and quiet setting. The area is not only spiritually uplifting
but also visually stunning, offering majestic views of the Himalayan landscape.
