Ladakh Extreme Expedition – 8 Days High Passes & Lakes

  • The Caucasus Mountains are a mountain range at the intersection of Asia and Europe

Overview

This 8-day Ladakh itinerary is an intensive high-altitude adventure, meticulously structured to blend essential acclimatization with the conquest of remote frontiers and iconic high-altitude lakes. The journey demands excellent physical fitness and respect for Ladakh’s extreme environment.

The expedition prioritizes safety by beginning with two full days (Day 1-2) dedicated to acclimatization in Leh, including an exploration of the lower-altitude Sham Valley. Once acclimatized, the route immediately tackles a major transit over Khardung La Pass on Day 3 to reach the remote Turtuk village in the Nubra Valley, located close to the Line of Control.

Day 4 involves a scenic drive along the Shyok River to the breathtaking Pangong Tso lake. The route pushes further east on Day 5 into the Changthang plateau, arriving at Hanle, known for its remote astronomical observatory. The journey’s climax occurs on Day 6, featuring a challenging crossing of the high-altitude Mig La Pass, culminating with the arrival at the serene Tso Moriri Lake.

Day 7 provides a final spectacular drive, traveling from Tso Moriri back to Leh. The entire adventure concludes on Day 8 with the transfer and drop-off to the airport, leaving travelers with unparalleled memories of conquering Ladakh’s diverse landscapes, from its remote villages and vast plateaus to its stunning turquoise lakes and formidable mountain passes.
