Beas Kund Trek

Plan your Beas Kund Trek with Heaven Riders India

Overview

Beas Kund Trek is one of the most beautiful short treks in Himachal Pradesh. From Solang
Nallah, the route winds through the famous Solang Valley. Solang valley is famous for its Ski
slopes, Paragliding and many adventure activities.
On this trek, you will see amazing views of lush green meadows, glaciers and snow-capped mountain
peaks. The meadows of Dhundi & Bakarthach are spectacular in its beauty and you’re gonna camp
beside the river Beas during your trip.
We offers you an opportunity spotting the divine Beas Kund in just 3 days.

Where is Beas Kund Located?

Beas Kund sits at an altitude of approximately 3,650 metres (about 12,000 feet), nestled in a bowl-shaped valley surrounded by peaks such as Hanuman Tibba, Friendship Peak, and Shitidhar. It lies close to the popular hill stations of Manali and Solang Valley in Himachal Pradesh, making it easily accessible for anyone flying into or driving up to the region.

The lake itself is small and glacial, fed by melting snow from the surrounding peaks. According to local legend, this is the spot where the sage Vyas (Beas) meditated and struck the ground to create a source of water — giving the lake, and the river that flows from it, its name. This mythological connection adds a layer of cultural richness to what is already a visually stunning destination.

Why Choose the Beas Kund Trek?

There are several reasons why this trek has become a favourite among both beginner and experienced trekkers:

1. Short Duration, Big Reward Unlike many Himalayan treks that require a week or more, this trail can be comfortably completed in 2 to 3 days, making it ideal for people with limited leave or those wanting a quick escape into the mountains.

2. Accessible Base Point The trek begins near Solang Valley, which is just a short drive from Manali. This means you do not need to spend days travelling just to reach the trailhead.

3. Diverse Landscapes Over the course of the trek, you will pass through pine and birch forests, open meadows filled with wildflowers in season, glacial moraines, and finally the pristine lake itself, surrounded by towering peaks.

4. Suitable for Beginners While it does involve some elevation gain, the trail is considered moderate, making it a great introduction to high-altitude trekking for those who have not attempted one before.

5. Mountaineering Base Beas Kund also serves as a base camp for climbers attempting Hanuman Tibba and Friendship Peak, so trekkers often get to see mountaineering expeditions in progress, adding to the sense of adventure.

Best Time to Visit Beas Kund

Timing plays a major role in how enjoyable your Beas Kund Trek turns out to be. Here is a season-wise breakdown:

May to June This period offers pleasant weather with clear skies and blooming alpine flowers. Snow may still be present at higher sections, adding a touch of adventure without making the trail too difficult.

July to August These months fall within the monsoon season, which brings rain, slippery trails, and the risk of landslides on the approach roads. Most trekking operators, including Heaven Riders India, generally avoid scheduling treks during peak monsoon for safety reasons.

September to October Considered by many to be the best window for this trek. The skies are clear, the monsoon has receded, and the mountain views are at their sharpest. Temperatures are cool but comfortable for trekking.

November onwards Snowfall begins to set in, and the trail becomes considerably more challenging, requiring proper winter trekking gear and experience. This period is generally recommended only for seasoned trekkers accompanied by expert guides.

For most travellers, May–June and September–October offer the ideal combination of good weather, safe trail conditions, and stunning visibility.

Difficulty Level of Beas Kund Trek

The Beas Kund Trek is generally classified as an easy-to-moderate trek, making it accessible to a wide range of fitness levels. That said, a few factors are worth keeping in mind:

  • The trail involves a steady, gradual ascent rather than steep, technical climbs.
  • Altitude sickness can still be a concern given the elevation gain, so proper acclimatisation and hydration are important.
  • The final approach to the lake includes some boulder-hopping and uneven terrain, which requires basic fitness and stable footing.
  • Weather conditions can change quickly at this altitude, so being prepared for sudden drops in temperature is essential.

We recommend that trekkers engage in some basic physical preparation — brisk walking, light cardio, or stair climbing — for a few weeks before the trek to ensure a comfortable experience.

Permits and Regulations

Since the trek falls within a forest and eco-sensitive zone, a forest permit is typically required to undertake the Beas Kund Trek. Heaven Riders India handles all the necessary permit arrangements for our guided groups, so trekkers do not need to worry about paperwork or last-minute formalities. It is always a good idea to carry a valid government ID proof, as this may be required for verification at checkpoints.

Flora and Fauna Along the Trail

The Beas Kund Trek passes through varied ecological zones, offering trekkers a glimpse of the region’s rich biodiversity. Lower sections of the trail are lined with pine, deodar, and birch forests, while higher altitudes open up into alpine meadows dotted with wildflowers during the summer months. Trekkers may also spot Himalayan birds and, on occasion, signs of wildlife such as the Himalayan marmot in the higher reaches near the lake. The changing vegetation as you climb is one of the quieter pleasures of this trek, offering a natural rhythm to the journey.

How to Reach the Base Point

Most trekkers begin their journey by reaching Manali, which is well connected by road to major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (Kullu-Manali Airport), roughly 50 km from Manali, while the nearest railway station is Joginder Nagar, though many travellers prefer to take an overnight bus or taxi directly from Delhi.

From Manali, it is a short drive of around 30–40 minutes to Dhundi, via Solang Valley, which serves as the actual starting point of the trek. Heaven Riders India can arrange local transport from Manali to Dhundi as part of our trek packages, so you do not have to worry about coordinating logistics on your own.

Tips for a Smooth Trekking Experience

  • Acclimatise gradually. Do not rush the ascent, especially on the first day, to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the trek, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Start early each day. Weather in the mountains can turn unpredictable by afternoon, so an early start helps you complete the day’s trek before conditions change.
  • Pace yourself. There is no need to rush; a steady pace conserves energy for the entire duration of the trek.
  • Respect the environment. Carry back all non-biodegradable waste and avoid disturbing local flora and fauna.
  • Listen to your guide. Local guides are trained to read weather and terrain conditions — their instructions are there for your safety.
