Kinner Kailash Trek with Yulla Kanda

  • The Caucasus Mountains are a mountain range at the intersection of Asia and Europe

Overview

Nestled in the majestic Himalayan ranges of Himachal Pradesh, Kinnaur Kailash is one of the holiest and most striking mountain massifs in India. Revered by Hindus and Buddhists alike, the region is known for its spiritual significance, dramatic landscapes, and ancient cultural legacy.

At an altitude of approximately 6,050 meters, Kinnaur Kailash is home to the famous Kinnaur Kailash Shiv Lingam, a naturally formed vertical rock pillar believed to represent Lord Shiva. This sacred formation changes color with the movement of the sun and attracts trekkers, pilgrims, and adventure enthusiasts from around the world.

The surrounding Kinnaur district is a blend of rugged terrain, apple orchards, glacial streams, and remote villages that preserve centuries-old traditions, temples, and monasteries. Every turn on the trail offers panoramic views of snow-clad peaks, high-altitude meadows, and pristine valleys.

Yulla Kanda

Situated at an altitude of 3,800 meters, Yulla Kanda is one of Kinnaur’s hidden gems and a revered pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Krishna. Often called the “Kinnauri Krishna Circuit”, the site features a pristine high-altitude lake surrounded by towering mountains and untouched alpine fields.

The crystal-clear Yulla Kanda Lake is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna rested with his troops, making it an important spiritual destination for the region’s tribal communities. Every year, locals undertake a traditional pilgrimage to the lake, offering prayers and performing rituals beside its calm, reflective waters.

The trek to Yulla Kanda is moderate in difficulty and rewards visitors with enchanting scenery—lush green pastures, wildflowers during summer, and sweeping views of the Kinnaur Kailash range. Its solitude and serenity make it a perfect destination for trekkers seeking an offbeat Himalayan experience.

Kinnaur Kailash & Yulla Kanda: A Combined Experience

Visiting both Kinnaur Kailash and Yulla Kanda offers a unique blend of adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty. While Kinnaur Kailash challenges trekkers with its high-altitude routes and sacred landmarks, Yulla Kanda offers a peaceful, introspective journey through pristine Himalayan landscapes.
