Overview
This 7-day, Ladakh Extreme Winter Tour is designed for the highly adventurous traveler seeking to cover the region’s three major zones—Leh, Nubra, and the Changthang region (Pangong and Tso Moriri)—in the shortest possible time. Travel during this season is exceptionally demanding, characterized by limited daylight, extreme cold, and unpredictable road closures due to ice and snow.
Flexibility is not just recommended, it is mandatory.
This compact itinerary requires back-to-back, full-day drives to connect the two remote lakes, requiring peak physical fitness and resilience. We have maintained the mandatory full day of acclimatization and the critical passage over the renowned Khardung La Pass. To fit both Pangong and Tso Moriri, the visit to Chang La Pass, Turtuk, Thiksey, and Shey Monasteries has been removed, prioritizing the two major lake experiences.
All ground transfers are handled by a private taxi. However, guests must be prepared for the high possibility of itinerary changes due to harsh and unpredictable weather & climatic conditions. This journey is only suitable for healthy individuals with excellent tolerance for severe cold and arduous travel.

Day 01
Arrival & Acclimatization in Leh
Land at Leh Airport (IXL) and receive personalized transfer service to your accommodation.
Check in and utilize the entirety of the day for mandatory rest and crucial high-altitude acclimatization to prevent altitude sickness.
Undertake only gentle strolls within the immediate vicinity of Leh town.
Overnight stay in Leh.

Note: Please note, a minimum stay of 2 days in Leh is mandatory to adjust to the high altitude before proceeding to further destinations.
Day 02
Leh’s Cultural & Historical Circuit
Immerse yourself in the iconic Sham Valley sites: Hall of Fame (the soldier's tribute), the sacred Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, the mystifying Magnetic Hill, and the majestic Sangam View where the Indus and Zanskar rivers converge.
Explore the magnificent architecture of the Indus Valley: Thiksey Monastery and the ancient royal seat at Shey Palace.
Ascend to the historic Leh Palace and conclude the day capturing the sunset from the serene, peace-promoting Shanti Stupa.

Day 03
Nubra Valley
Embark on the dramatic drive toward Nubra Valley (The Valley of Flowers).
Conquer the legendary Khardung La Pass (17,580 ft).
Note: Vehicle passage is strictly subject to clear weather.
Visit the striking Diskit Monastery and its colossal 100-foot-tall Maitreya Buddha statue.
Proceed to Hunder.
Experience the signature double-humped (Bactrian) camel ride across the high-desert sand dunes of Hunder (at your own cost)
Overnight stay in Hunder/Nubra Valley.

Day 04
Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso
Conduct any final exploration or viewing in Nubra Valley.
Commence the highly efficient and direct drive from Nubra Valley to the Pangong Tso lake via the picturesque Shyok route (approximately 6-7 hours).
Arrive at the frozen expanse of Pangong Lake, renowned for its blue waters, which will likely be encased in ice during winter.

Day 05
Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri
After sunrise views over the lake, begin the exhaustive, cross-country drive through the remote Changthang region, linking directly to Tso Moriri Lake (approximately 7-9 hours). This long transit is the most challenging leg, relying on remote, open seasonal tracks.
Arrive at Tso Moriri, India's largest high-altitude lake, surrounded by spectacular, isolated winter mountains.
Overnight stay at Korzok village.

Day 06
Tso Moriri to Leh
Quick final views and photographic opportunities at Tso Moriri.
Begin the demanding long-haul return drive back to Leh, following the Indus route (approximately 7-8 hours).
Check back into your hotel in Leh for a full night's rest after the remote Chang thang expedition.
Overnight stay in Leh.

Departure Day
Enjoy your final breakfast in Leh.

I went for an ice climbing course to Spiti valley with their team. This is supposed to be one of the toughest courses at high altitude areas. In chilling temperatures of minus 28 degrees, tough climbs at high altitudes as well as scaling the whole waterfall, Vishal Thakur was an absolute epitome of leadership and technical expertise. He believed in me more than I did in myself. The course was an absolute success! I will definitely be coming back for the advanced course! Everything from the logistics to the stay to the food and the teaching was managed impeccably. As a special mention, I want to thank Ms. Kalpana as well who was coordinating with me throughout the journey and made sure she was available even in the wee hours of the morning without a single complaint.
