Kashmir great lakes trek aka KGL is the most beautiful and picturesque trek in India. Also known as prettiest trek of India. It is a compilation of the most magnificent alpine lakes and passes in the world. It is a comprehensive package for nature enthusiasts who are constantly eager to discover new valleys and test their limits in search of hidden gems.
Kashmir great lakes trek is also known as Sonamarg-Vishansar-Naranag Trek. It is very uncommon on every trek that you get to see beautiful alpine lakes. On KGL Trek, every day you’ll see a new lake and astonishing views will take your breath away. The best time to enjoy the Kashmir Great Lakes trek is between July and August when the floral colors and greenery are in full bloom. This journey takes about seven days, but the views will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime, and because it is a moderate level hike, it can be tackled by fit but inexperienced trekkers or even first-timers.
KGL trek covers 7 major lakes – Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar (Seven Lakes), Gangabal, and Nundkol. The region is surrounded by dense flora, bouquets of diverse flowers, and mountains covered with snow. The highest elevation is witnessed at 13,800 ft. which is at the top of Gadsar Pass.

The best time for Kashmir great lakes trek is from mid-July to August end when the floral colors and greenery are in full bloom. The snow cover melts in June, leaving behind a lush carpet of colors behind. The weather is also quite pleasant during this window.
The temperature ranges from 17 to 25 degrees Celsius during the daytime and 5 to 0 degrees Celsius at night.
Advisory Note: Please include a buffer day in your travel plans to accommodate bad weather on the trek or any political instability. All this totally depends on circumstances in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. You are liable to pay Rs 3,000/- per person per day on the spot, if buffer day is used.
* Bring an original valid Govt. ID card with you on Kashmir Great Lakes Trek.
* Always have a raincoat because the weather at high altitudes, especially on this hike, can change at any time.
* A trekking pole is required because this walk includes many steep ascents and descents, and a trekking pole can lessen the load on the knees by up to 30%.
Srinagar International Airport SXR is well connected to all cities of the country. Most major air carriers like Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Indigo operate daily flights from Delhi, Jammu, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Kolkata. Srinagar airport is about 70 km away from Sonamarg.
Sonamarg is accessible from the other parts of the country via the National Highway 1A. From Jammu, the state of J&K offers pleasant buses & shared cabs. The journey takes about 10 hours to reach Srinagar, which is about 90 km away from Sonamarg and takes 3-4 hours.
Jammu Tawi is the most convenient stop, with numerous buses and cabs to Srinagar available. From Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune and Trivandrum, direct train connections are available.
* Off Loading charges INR 2,500 per bag up to 8-9kg for entire trek. If you opt during trek, it’ll cost you INR 700 per day or more.
* We reserve the right to change the itinerary as per safety protocol & smooth operation of the trek.
* KGL requires good physical fitness, prepare accordingly. Read in Health & Fitness
* Include a buffer day in your plan to accommodate bad weather or any political instability. Plan book tickets accordingly. If utilized, you are liable to pay Rs 3,000/- per person per day on the spot.

You must have to carry both original & copy of valid Govt. Id (Passport/Aadhar card/Driving License), NOC form (by participant), Medical Certificate (signed by a registered MBBS doctor), 2 passport size photos along with you and submit them to Trek Leader at base camp briefing on day 1. also send soft copy through email.
There will be three persons accommodating in one tent. If you want tent for One or Two, please ask while bookings. Customization available on extra cost.
Girls safety is important to us. Our entire mountain staff & guides are extremely trust worthy. Many solo woman travelers trek with us so there's no worry about it. We would advise all to take care of your belongings.
Good trekking shoes are the most important part of the trek, so you have to be very careful before buying it. Always buy .5 or 1.0 extra size for better results. You can buy trekking shoes from Decathlon which includes brands like Quechua.
Toilet tents would be there at campsite. Basically, we use dry toilets which is one of the best way to answer nature call in the wilderness. Dry toilets means, we dig a pit and keep mud & shovel so once you are done with your business you can cover it up using mud. It is the most hygienic way.You should carry toiletries as we mentioned in the things to carry/essentials.
We serve nutritious Indian vegetarian food with eggs. Jain food also available on request please ask while bookings.
We at HRI believe in the concept of Small batches' that improves quality & focus. Max 15 members of group strength that helps trek leader to get connect all members. For private groups there's no limit of group size.
Your load will depends on things that are packed by you in the sack. On an average trekker's carry between 7-10 kg of weight with clothing’s, cameras, energy bars, dry fruits, water bottle etc. Off-loading option available on extra cost. Please ask while bookings.
In any case of any emergency our mountain staff is skilled and trained for such situations held at high altitude. Our team always carry first aid kit, oximeter and portable oxygen with us and in any emergency we'll rescue the trekker till the road head. All of the costs of rescue/evacuation, hospitalization is to borne by the trekker. All and all it is trekkers responsibility to get a certified medical fitness document before coming for the trek, which certifies that the trekker is fit for the trek. We advise you to come with insurance.
No you won’t find any charging point. You have to carry a power bank to charge your phone & digital camera.
No you wouldn’t find any network during trek. Please share this with anxious family members in advance.
No, absolutely not. Smoking & Liquor is strictly not allowed during the trek. This causes dehydration on higher altitude which is an invitation to Acute Mountain Sickness. We recommend you not to take such things along with or you would be disqualified and sent back to road head in between of the trek.
Trek preparations are already done previously. We will be offering you any alternate trek or voucher having similar value for money in case of natural calamities. In case of non-completion of trek due to weather conditions etc there wont be any refund.
