Spiti Valley is one of the most picturesque destinations in the entire Himalayas. The word Spiti means ‘Middle Land’, the land between Tibet and India. Travelers love the remoteness & treacherous roads of Spiti. Spiti Biking Expedition is India’s most demandable expedition for every motorbike lover.

Spiti is a cold desert mountain valley and is approachable from both Shimla & Manali sides. The altitude gain is gradual from the Shimla-Rampur-Kinnaur route while it is sudden if you arrive via Manali. Riding motorbikes through the toughest roads is a lifetime experience. The trip starts from Chandigarh and you’ll ride through Shimla, Narkanda, Chitkul to Spiti valley. You will explore the ancient monasteries, highest post office in the world, high altitude villages and get to experience the real blend of Buddhism and Tibetan culture. You’ll witness the serene ‘Chandratal Lake’, one of the gems of Lahaul & Spiti. Tourists from outside India must obtain inner line permits in order to visit Spiti.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Chandigarh.

Reach Chandigarh & Check-in at Hotel, this is the first stop of the Spiti Biking Expedition, where you meet our representatives and fellow travelers. Freshen up and rest time. Meet the group captain, a lesson on safety. Later free time to roam or buy required items as per things to carry/essentials list. Return to the hotel on time for dinner.

Check-in Time: 12 pm.

Day 2: Chandigarh to Narkanda Distance (175 Km | 7 - 8 Hrs)

Wake up early in the morning to start the Spiti Motorbiking Expedition. Bike will be allotted and Group captain will brief you about today's plan over breakfast. Please follow group ride and traffic rules. We'll start early from Chandigarh in order to reach Narkanda by late afternoon. Evening tea and Dinner at Hotel.

Route - Chandigarh - Solan - Shimla - Theog - Narkanda

Day 3: Narkanda to Sangla (180 Km | 6 - 8 Hrs)

Route: Narkanda - Rampur - Sangla - Chitkul

Post breakfast, you will start your Spiti ride towards the beautiful Kinnaur district. It will take 7-8 hours to reach todays destination. Sangla Valley is also famous for its natural beauty and villages. Evening tea and Dinner at Hotel.

Day 4: Sangla/Chitkul to Kalpa (70 Km | 4-5 Hrs)

Route: Sangla/Chitkul-Reckongpeo-Powari-Kalpa

Chitkul is the last village on Indo-China border. Chikul is very peaceful village. You'll provided one hour to experience the tippical himalayan village life. You can roam around the village or talk with locals over tea/coffee or Maggie. Later, we'll ride towards Kalpa. It will take around 5 hours to reach there. Don't forget to witness Sunset and Sunrise at Kalpa. Dinner and stay at Hotel.

Day 5: Kalpa to Tabo (200 Km | 8 - 10 Hrs)

Route: Kalpa - Spillow - Nako - Tabo.

Post early breakfast, ride towards Spiti; Kaza via old Hindustan - Tibet road. On this day you'll enjoy the confluence point of Spiti & Satluj rivers at Khab. We'll stop for lunch (not in package) at Nako lake. Nako lake is high altitude lake situated at 12,014ft above sea level.

We will be entering Spiti valley at Sumdo and little further we will take the link road to Geu village where you will be visiting the famous 500-Year-Old Mummy of old monk. Head to Tabo, dinner and overnight stay at Hostel/hotel/Home Stay.

Day 6: Kaza Local: Hikkim – Komic – Langza : Kaza (50 Km | 7 Hrs)

Route: Kaza - Hikkim - Komic - Langza - Kaza

This is the most beautiful and picturesque day of your tour. Start the day with Tabo monastery and on the way Dhankar Monastery and then you'll visit the highest villages in the world connected to motorable road. Also world's highest post office Hikkim, fossil village Langza and many of you have seen the pictures of famous huge Buddha statue of Spiti. Dinner and overnight stay at Kaza.

Day 7: Kaza to Chadra Tal via Kunzum La (110 Km | 8 Hrs)

Route: Kaza - Kee Monastery - Chicham Bridge - Kunzum - Chandra Tal

After early breakfast, start your ride towards Chandra tal. Today we will be at the highest point of the trip, The Kunzum Pass. Kee Monastery and Chicham bridge to be covered enroute. You will have your lunch (not in package) at Batal.

Road to Chandra Tal starts from Batal. The road comes to a stop about a kilometre before the lake, and you must walk the remaining distance to the lake. Chandra Tal is a crescent-shaped lake filled with crystal clear water. The area around Chandratal has been blessed with breathtaking beauty and as such, one can experience the serenity of nature everywhere. Dinner and overnight stay in Swiss camps.

Day 8: Chandra Tal to Manali (150 Km | 7 Hrs)

Route: Chandra Tal - Batal - Atal Tunnel - Manali

Post breakfast, you will ride towards Manali via Rohtang Pass so better to start early in the morning. On some points water level is so high. The ride from Batal to Chhatru to Gramphu is most treacherous in the entire Spiti Motorbiking expedition.

You will reach Manali in 7-8 hours, rest depends on road & weather conditions. Dinner and overnight stay at Manali.

Day 9: Manali to Chandigarh (305 km | 10 hours).

Route: Manali - Mandi - Bilaspur - Chandigarh.

After breakfast, we will start journey towards Chandigarh, Ride carefully. Submit your bikes, rental gears at Chandigarh. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 10: Departure Day

After breakfast, check-out from hotel. Spiti Biking Expedition brings to an end a lifetime experience. Services end here.

What documents I have to carry for Spiti Biking Expedition?

You must have to carry both original & copy of valid Govt. Id (Passport/Aadhar card/Driving License), NOC form (by participant), Medical Certificate (signed by a registered MBBS doctor with stamp), 2 passport size photos along with you and submit them to Trek Leader at base during briefing.

I'm the solo female traveler, is it safe?

Yes, you come to our Spiti Biking Expedition. Because girls' safety is important to us. Our entire mountain team and guides have a high level of trustworthiness. Many solo woman travelers trek with us so there's no worry about it. We would advise all to take care of your belongings.

What kind of toilet facility you are providing?

Toilet tents would be there at Prashar lake campsite. Basically, we use dry toilets which is one of the best way to answer nature call in the wilderness. Dry toilets means, we dig a pit and keep mud & shovel so once you are done with your business you can cover it up using mud. It is the most hygienic way in the mountains. You should carry toiletries as we mentioned in the things to carry/essentials.

At our Panarsa home stay we have western & Indian toilets.

What type of food is served during Spiti Expedition?

We serve nutritious Indian vegetarian food with eggs. Jain food also available on request please ask while bookings.

What if the itinerary was altered or a portion of the tour was omitted due to a roadblock?

We place a high focus on your safety. Also, we must remember that in the Himalayas, everything is subject to weather and road conditions, and this is the true Himalayan experience.

We may become stranded due to poor weather, roadblocks, or vehicle breakdowns; however, the HRI Road Captain/Tour Leader will make the best feasible arrangements based on the circumstances.

How big are the groups?

We at HRI believe in the concept of Small batches' that improves quality & focus and help trek leader to get connect all members. For private groups there's no limit of group size.

What if an emergency occurred on our Spiti Biking Expedition?

In any case of any emergency our mountain staff is skilled and trained for such situations held at mountains. Our team always carry first aid kit, oximeter and portable oxygen with us and in any emergency we'll rescue the trekker till the road head. All of the costs of rescue/evacuation, hospitalization is to borne by the trekker. Overall, it is the trekker's responsibility to obtain a certified medical fitness document prior to the trek, certifying that the trekker is physically fit for the journey.

Can I do calls during the expedition?

Yes, but there are a few locations where you won't be able to connect during your Spiti excursion. At Kaza, BSNL and Jio collaborate. Please send this to any worried family members ahead of time.

Which type of shoes should I buy?

Because good trekking shoes are the most vital component of the walk, you must be extremely cautious while purchasing them. Always buy .5 or 1.0 extra size for better results. They must be waterproof. Decathlon sells trekking shoes from Quechua and other well-known brands. Don't come to trek with sports shoes, they are worst on trek.
